General Information:

  • Professionals with requisite qualifications and experience as prescribed would be eligible for the appointment of above posts.
  • Selected candidates would be engaged for a fixed period for providing high quality services to the Institute for attending to specific and time-bound jobs.
  • The appointment would be on Full-time basis and they would not be permitted to take up any other assignment during the period of Consultancy with the NIH.
  • The appointment is purely temporary on co-terminus basis and do not entitle the appointee to any claim implicit or explicit or any NIH post. The appointment can be cancelled at any time by the Institute without assigning any reason.
  • The initial term of appointment and subsequent extension (s) if any, shall be decided on case to case basis depending upon the specific job and the time frame for its completion.
  • The selected candidates shall not be entitled to any allowance such as Dearness Allowance, Residential Telephone, Transport facility, Personal Staff etc.
  • The selected candidates may be provided with the transit accommodation as per prevailing rules of the Institute. The applicable licence fee shall be charged and they will vacate the accommodation on the termination or expiry of the tenure, whichever is earlier.
  • The selection of candidates will be made through Walk-in-Interview. No TA/DA will be paid to the candidate for attending the interview. No TA/DA shall be admissible for joining the appointment on contractual basis. The selected candidate shall be allowed TA/DA for their travel inside the country in connection with the official work.
  • Candidates can directly attend the walk-in-interview on the prescribed date, time at NIH along with complete bio-data, passport size photograph and original proof of qualification and experience. They must also bring with them self-attested copies of their certificates.Candidate may report in NIH in one hour before Interview time. After starting of Interview, admission in the same will not be allowed.

  • Maximum Age for Research Associate shall be 35 years and for Senior Research Fellow shall be 32 years and Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and Field Assistant will be 28 years, as on the date of interview. Age relaxation of SC/ST/OBC/Women and physically handicapped candidates as per Govt. of India rules.
  • No. of posts may increase or decrease depending on the projects.

  • National Institute of Hydrology (NIH) is an autonomous society under Ministry of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India and has been functioning as a research Institute in the area of hydrology and water resources in the country since December 1978 in Roorkee City.
  • Main objectives of the institute are to undertake, support, promote and coordinate systematic and scientific research work in all aspects of Hydrology and Water Resources. The institute has its headquarters at Roorkee (Uttarakhand, India), four Regional centres at Belagavi, Jammu, Kakinada and Bhopal and two Centres for Flood Management Studies at Guwahati and Patna. The institute is well equipped to carry out computer, laboratory and field oriented studies.
  • The institute acts as a centre of excellence for transfer of technology, human resources development and institutional development in specialized areas of hydrology and conducts user defined, demand-driven research through collaboration with relevant national and international organizations.
  • The institute vigorously pursues capacity development activities by organizing training programs for field engineers, scientists, researchers, NGOs etc. The institute is focusing studies and R&D in the thrust areas of impact of climate change on water resources; integrated water resources management; groundwater modeling and management; flood and drought management; regional hydrology; hydrology of extremes; reservoir/lake sedimentation; watershed hydrology; and water quality assessment in specific areas.
  • National Institute of Hydrology (NIH) is a premier Research and Development organization under the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India. It was established as an autonomous society in 1978 with its headquarters at Roorkee. The main objectives of NIH are to undertake, aid, promote and coordinate systematic and scientific work in all aspects of hydrology. The Institute was declared as an S&T organization in 1987.
  • Our research findings are published in the form of reports and research papers in reputed international and national journals, international and national seminars and conferences.
  • Publications brought out by the Institute in the form of technical reports, brochures, leaflets, state-of-art reports etc. are widely circulated to various user agencies in India as well as abroad, enriching hydrologic literature and knowledge.

  • The Institute has developed software for hydrological analysis and design which are being used to solve various practical problems.
  • NIH has established Water Quality, Remote Sensing & GIS, Nuclear Hydrology, and Soil & Water Laboratories with state-of-art equipment and software.
  • Under technology transfer programme, the Institute has organized a large number of short-duration training courses all over the country on different topics in the domain of hydrology and water resources. The participants to these course come from Central and State government organization, academic and R&D institutes, private sector, and NGOs.
