Education Qualification:
Masters’ Degree in Wildlife Science/ Botany/ Zoology/ Forestry/ Life Science/ Agriculture/Environmental Sciences/Statistics with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks or Masters’ Degree Social Sciences or related subjects with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University. Minimum 2 years post masters research experience.

General Instructions:

  • The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier autonomous Institute under the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, in the field of teaching, training and research. The WII wishes to engage following posts for the project ‘Understanding Population Dynamics, Space Use, Movement and Diet of Leopards in Junnar Taluka, Maharashtra for Human Leopard Conflict Mitigation’ funded by Maharashtra Forest Department. Positions are for a period of ONE YEAR initially and may to be extended for three years based on the performance of the candidate. The proposed project expects to generate baseline information on spatio-temporal use of the Junnar Division and adjoining landscape by the leopards. The study is going to help in managing leopards in the Junnar Forest Division and will also try to evaluate the connectivity of the landscape for leopard movement.
  • The candidate should report by 0930 hrs for verification of documents followed by written test on 25th March 2019 and personal Interview on the same day at 1400 hrs. The Institute will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the written test and personal interview.
  • Candidates should bring the duly filled-in application with attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications along with certificate of extracurricular activities; date of birth, mark sheets of all examinations etc. All original documents/certificates must be produced at the time of registration for necessary verification.
  • No TA/DA will be paid for attending the interview.

  • The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) was established at Dehradun in 1982. In 1986, it was granted the status of an autonomous Institution of the Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India, New Delhi. WII is now recognized as a premier regional institution for training and research in biodiversity conservation. A large number of foresters and wildlife managers from other developing countries, particularly south and south-east Asia, have been trained in WII since its establishment. WII has given a new direction to the concept and practice of biodiversity conservation, made it more practical and realistic by seeking the involvement and cooperation of local people. However, the problem and challenges are immense and diverse in a constantly changing scenario. Learning from its own and others experiences, WII traverses a path of hope which will help strengthen its inputs and find answers to conservation issues and problems in the developing world.

  • Conduct Research Projects on various aspects of wildlife and its efficient management.
  • Conduct a 2 year Post-graduate Course on Wildlife Science on bi-annual basis to develop next generation of wildlife scientists.
  • Conduct Post-graduate Diploma Course in Advanced Wildlife Management for forest officers.
  • Undertaking 3-months Certificate Course on Wildlife Management for frontline field staff of forest department at Range Officer level.
  • Undertaking theme based capacity building training programs, workshops and study visits on issues related to wildlife management and biodiversity
    conservation for various levels of forest officers and other stakeholders.
  • Undertaking research on documentation and monitoring of wild biodiversity and related issues.
  • Wildlife research is a major activity of the Institute that not only supports field conservation but also enables its faculty to keep abreast with technological advances and contemporary field situations and to make use of outcomes for effective teaching too. Research agenda and initiatives are guided by the Training, Research and Advisory Council (TRAC). The Institute’s research programme aims to improve our understanding of biological, ecological, socio-economic and management aspects of protected areas, multiple use/buffer zones and threatened species. The Institute undertakes research relevant to wildlife ecology, landscape level planning, conservation of species and habitats, wildlife forensics, wildlife genetics, human dimensions of conservation and community participation, coastal and marine biodiversity, and environmental impact assessment. Some of the research initiatives have also led to development of field techniques appropriate to Indian field conditions. WII makes extensive use of modern tools and techniques in its research programmes. WII has successfully completed over 150 projects since its inception and has significantly contributed towards the development of baseline information, ecological relationships, and strategies relevant to management, mitigation and monitoring. Research outcomes are disseminated in the form of national and international peer reviewed papers, books, Ph.D. theses, dissertations,research/technical reports, field manuals, etc. and are also uploaded o the Institute’s website. The Research Coordinator under the supervision of the Director and the
    Dean, Faculty of Wildlife Sciences coordinates the research activities of the Institute.
