About Us:

Vacancy Notice LDC, MTS, Steno & Various Vacancy – Government of Goa

  • Goa, a tiny emerald land on the west coast of India, the 25th state of the Union states of India, was liberated from Portuguese rule in 1961. It was a part of Union Territory of Goa, Daman & Diu till 30th May 1987 when it was carved out of form a separate state. Goa covers an area of 3702 square kilometers and comprises two Revenue district viz North Goa and South Goa. Boundaries of Goa State are defined in the North Terekhol river which separates it from Maharashtra, in the East and South by Karnataka State and West by Arabian Sea. Goa lies in Western Coast of India and is 594 Kms (by road) away from Mumbai city.
  • Mining in Goa started before 1961 when Goa was under the rule of Portugues. The Japanese mineral prospectors had surveyed Goa and found iron ore, manganese and bauxite in the hilly region of the western ghats. The colonial government had granted 336 mining leases. Althought Goa got its liberation from the colonial government on 19 December 1961.
  • Agriculture is one of the important economic activities in Goa. The total agricultural area is approximately 1400 sq km from which 1200 sq km is owned by the govt and remaining 200 sq km is owned privately. Rice and coconut are the staple produce of Goa. Paddy is cultivated during the monsoon from the months of June to September.
  • as for the multitude of people, it is a marvel to see the number which come and go every day by sea and land on business of every kind. One would say that a fair was being held every day for the sale of all sorts of merchandise.
  • In those tumultuous and rebellious times in the sixties, it was then not the ‘sweet betel’ that was the prime attraction but a different kind of ‘weed’. But Goa, since those days of the angry generation, has moved on to attract a multitudinous, peaceful and cosmopolitan school of visitors from all around the globe.
  • In the sixties and seventies, it was, as we have remarked, a haven for the hippies. Since then Goa has moved on to fullfledged Statehood, its own Council of Ministers, a magnificent new Assembly complex, its citizens among the most literate in the country with a per capita income the highest in the land. At the hub of this prosperity, is the Tourism industry. At the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), we take a humble bow in acknowledgement, in some small measure, of putting Goa on the tourist map of our country.
