General Instruction:
- Age of the apprentice should not be less than 18 years as on closing date of application published in employment news. The upper age limit is 24 years which is relaxable by 03 years for OBC candidates, 05 years for SC/ST candidates and 10 years for person with disability (FWD).
- Selected candidates are entitled for stipend as per the provisions of Apprentices Act 1961. The character and antecedents of the selected candidates will have to be verified.
- There is no provision for appointment of the apprenticeship trainee in DRDO or in this lab after the completion of training and candidate cannot claim for the same.
- The Director, HEMRL reserves the right to increase or decrease the number of posts for apprentices.
- The applicants should not have undergone similar training elsewhere. Only those applicants can apply who have completed the qualifying examination in 2018 or later.
- Graduate and Diploma/Technician apprentices should first register themselves in Ministry of Human Resources and Development portal www.mhrdnats.gov.in
- After registration at above stated portal, candidates are required to send scanned copies of their duly signed application along-with relevant documents/certificates (10th certificate, qualification certificates, mark sheet. caste certificate & birth certificate etc) valid as on closing date of applications in single PDF file through email to ejournal@hemrl.drdo.in In the subject line of the email “Application for Apprentices” should be written. Candidates are also advised to check their emails periodically and keep the same active during the selection process.
- The duly signed application form along with enclosures should also be sent through post to The Director, HEMRL: Sutarwadi, Pune-411021.
- In view of COVID-19 Pandemic situation, candidates may be screened on the basis of marks in essential qualification.
- The period of training will be for 12 months from the date of engagement as apprentice.
- Suppression of facts by the applicants will lead to disqualification at any stage of the selection process.
- Last date of application is 21 days from the date of publication of advertisement in employment news_
Applications received after the last date of submission will not be considered. - Eligible candidates may apply for concerned posts by sending their application to concerned email address, as per prescribed format. No need to send print to Ministry of Defence at this stage. Keeping a print copy for future use is advised though. Only eligible candidates will be entertained, therefore candidates must make sure that they meet the concerned eligibility criteria.

- The Ministry of Defence (MoD) (IAST: Rakshā Maṃtrālaya) is charged with coordinating and supervising all agencies and functions of the government relating directly to national security and the Indian armed forces. The President of India is the ceremonial commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the country. The Ministry of Defence provides policy framework and resources to the armed forces to discharge their responsibility in the context of the defence of the country. The Indian Armed Forces (including Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Indian Navy) and Indian Coast Guard under the Ministry of Defence are primarily responsible for ensuring the territorial integrity of India.
- At present, the undergoing new creation of National Defence University, for training of military officials and concerned civilian officials, will be administered and overseen by the Ministry. The Ministry organises and runs Republic Day celebrations and parade every year in January, hosting a chief guest. The Ministry has the largest budget among the federal departments of India and currently stands third in military expenditure in the world,among countries of the world.
- A military department was created by the supreme government of the British East India Company at Kolkata in the year 1776. Its main function was to co-ordinate and record orders, relating to the army, issued by various departments of the government of the East India Company. The Military Department initially functioned as a branch of the Public Department and maintained a list of army personnel.
- With the Charter Act 1833 the Secretariat of the Government of the East India Company was reorganised into four departments, each headed by a secretary to the Government.The armies in the presidencies of Bengal, Bombay and Madras functioned as the respective presidency armies until April 1895, when the presidency armies were unified into a single Indian Army. For administrative convenience, it was divided into four commands: Punjab (including the North West Frontier), Bengal (including Burma), Madras and Bombay (including Sindh, Quetta and Aden).
- The supreme authority over the Indian Army was vested in the Governor General-in-Council, subject to the control of the Crown, which was exercised by the Secretary of State for India. Two members in the Council were responsible for military affairs. One was the Military Member, who supervised all administrative and financial matters. The other was the commander-in-chief who was responsible for all operational matters.The Military Department was abolished in March 1906 and was replaced by two separate departments; the Army Department and the Military Supply Department. In April 1909 the Military Supply Department was abolished and its functions were taken over by the Army Department. The Army Department was redesignated as the Defence Department in January 1938. The Department of Defence became the Ministry of Defence under a cabinet minister in August 1947.
