General Instructions:
l. Graduate in any discipline from a recognized University/Institute.
2. Officers of the Police departments of the State/Central/Union Territory Go ernments or Otlicers of the para military Forces, holding analogous posts or with 7 (s en) years regular service in the post in Pay Band- 2 ~ 9300-34800/- with Grade Pay f~ 4600/or equivalent and preferably having experience connected with security handling agitations/strikes of employees.
3. A medical qualification included in the first or second schedule or part- II of the third schedule to the Indian Medical Council Act of 1956 (person possessing qua ifications included in the part-11 of the second schedule should also fulfill the conditions specified in the sub-section {3) ofthe section 13 of the Act

About the organization :
NEIGRIHMS is an Autonomous Institute established by Government of India in 1987 under the Meghalaya Registration of Societies Act 1983. The then Prime Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi dedicated the Institute to the memory of Late Indira Gandhi, former Prime Minister for her commitment to the welfare and affection for the people of North Eastern Region. It has now been designed as a Postgraduate Medical Institute in the lineage of AIIMS, New Delhi and PGIMER, Chandigarh. NEIGRIHMS has been the First and the only Postgraduate Medical Institute in the North Eastern Region and third in the country established by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee declared NEIGRIHMS as a National Institute on 22nd January 2000 when he visited Shillong. NEIGRIHMS has also been included in the Prime Minister’s Package for North East in March 1997. The total cost estimate of the Institute has been projected at Rs.422.60 crores. The progress and the development of the Institute have been keenly monitored by the PMO. The Action Plan of the Institute has been submitted to the PMO. The Planning Committee headed by the Secretary Health, Government of India, shall also monitor the Development of the Institute. North Eastern Region has got a population of 38.49 millions (as per 2001 Census) in an area of more than 2.6 lakhs of square kilometers served by 386 hospitals with bed strength of 20620 (Ratio 1:1518, National 1:1412). The doctors’ population Ratio in North East is deficient (e.g. Meghalaya 1:4758, National 1:2083). There is 50% overall deficiency in medical manpower and much more (60%) in total health sector. Compared with National norms there has been acute shortage of both health infrastructure and manpower in the Region. Although there are four Medical Colleges in Assam and Manipur, it will be just sufficient to produce the required medical graduates. However, the Region is highly deficient in manpower in Specialties. NEIGRIHMS has been identified as the necessary fillip to make up the deficiency zone in Human Health Resources. Center of Excellence for Medical Education to generate Health Manpower in Specialty, Super-specialty Medical Departments and Paramedics, Designed as a Postgraduate Medical Institute with 35 Postgraduate Departments on the line of PGIMER, Chandigarh and AIIMS, New Delhi, PG College of Nursing and Pharmacy shall be added to the Institute. User Friendly Patient Care System with State-of-Art Technology: As an Apex Referral Hospital with 500 beds, it will provide specialized Health Care to the people of North Eastern Region. Central Research Organization with Primary and Advanced Research Facilities: It shall look after the Regional needs and collaborate with other National and International agencies. The Institute being the first of its kind of Post Graduate Health Institute in the Regional shall take up the responsibility of an Apex Co-ordination Center to guide the Health Policies of North Eastern Council and also to co-ordinate with the Central Government Plans and Programmes of health care. The Institute shall be co-coordinating with International Health Organizations like WHO, UNICEF, World Bank, etc. NEIGRIHMS is an ongoing project till a full-fledged Postgraduate Institute of Health and Medical Sciences starts functioning. Immediate benefit to the patient population had been affected by starting the Interim Hospital Facility at Polo Hills, Shillong. The State Malaria Institute on the Pasteur Hills, Polo Ground was taken over by the Institute and renovated into an Interim Hospital Facility. The Interim Hospital Facility had been running the services in 4 Departments namely Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Radiology Imaging and Pathology. The two Super-specialties of Cardiology and Gastroenterology had Out Patient Clinics and 30-bedded Wards with 6 bedded Intensive Cardiac Care Unit. Subsequently the departments of Pediatrics, Obs & Gynea, Anesthesia, Urology and Gen. Surgery were added there. The hospital services were shifted to the permanent campus at Mawdiangdiang on 1st June 2006. The departments of Pediatrics were the first to shift its in patient as well as out patient services to the permanent campus. Subsequently all other departments were shifted to the permanent campus and as of today all hospital services are rendered from Mawdiangdiang.
