The job security, training opportunities and perks compensate for not being a high paymaster. Although, after the pay commission the scales have been revised substantially and people employed by the government does make a substantial amount.

On top of the rung of the ladder for government jobs are IAS, IPS and IFS officers. They not only command a high take home salary but also exclusive perks and unforeseen amounts of respect in society.

There are several jobs in the University Grants and this gives you a chance to pursue a doctorate degree whilst you are working and also earn simultaneously.

Another government sector job is in the Port trusts. This is one sector that has no competition as such and the work is interesting too.

The government sector also deals with telecommunication and there are lots of jobs in this industry too. The industry is booming because of the advent and coverage of mobile phones and the growing need of the internet to be connected. People in their work and personal lives need these communication means and in order to get a piece of this pie the government is willing to pay good money to get quality employees.
