General Instructions:
1, Indian agriculture must continuously evolve to remain ever responsive to manage the change and to meet the growing and diversified needs of different stakeholders in the entire production to consumption chain.
2. In order to capitalize on the opportunities and to convert weaknesses into opportunities, we at the ICAR attempted to visualize an alternate agricultural scenario from present to twenty years hence.
3. In this endeavour, an in-depth analysis of the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) was undertaken to place our research and technology development efforts in perspective so that we succeed in our pursuit of doing better than the best.
4. Accordingly, the researchable issues are identified, strategies drawn and programmes indicated to have commensurate projects and relevant activities coinciding with the launch of the XI Five Year Plan.
5. The training course is meant for teachers and researchers in Agricultural Economics and other social science disciplines of SAUs, ICAR Institutes and other public organizations. The objective of this course is to update the skills and knowledge of the participants and to make them aware of the recent developments in the field. Around 15 participants will be selected for the course. Further information about the course along with application proforma is given in the enclosed brochure
6. The candidate must possess a masters’ degree in agricultural economics or related social sciences with at least five years teaching or research experience and should be working not below the rank of a scientist or assistant professor. Preference will be given to the candidates having some knowledge and job responsibility in the area related to the training.
7. Now a training programme on “Agricultural Growth, Diversification and Food Security” during November 15 to December 05 2011 is proposed. The differential pattern of agricultural growth and meeting diversified consumer needs are matter of concern. The focus is now on acceleration of agricultural growth for the benefits of entire society and diversification towards high value commodities.
8. At the same time, issues of food security are still important. There have been advancement in the application of economic principles, particularly new institutional economics to promote the innovation led growth and create value along with supply chain. This course will deal with these issues. Specifically, the course will include the trends and sources of agricultural growth, institutional imperative for inclusive growth and agricultural diversification. The specific topics

Originally established in 1905 at Pusa (Bihar) with the financial assistance of an American Philanthropist, Mr. Henry Phipps, the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) started functioning from New Delhi since 1936 when it was shifted to its present site after a major earthquake damaged the Institute’s building at Pusa (Bihar). To serve as a centre for academic excellence in the area of post-graduate and human resources development in agricultural sciences. To provide national leadership in agricultural research, extension and technology assessment and transfer by developing new concepts and approaches and serving as a national referral point for quality and standards. To develop information systems add value to information, share the information nationally and internationally and serve as a national agricultural library and database.
