About the organization :
IIT Gandhinagar (IITGn) is one among the new IITs started from the academic year 2008-09. It is located at Chandkheda, about 15 minutes drive from both Ahmedabad and  Gandhinagar. Ahmedabad is known for its excellent infrastructure with thriving industries, prestigious academic and research institutes and an ambiance which encourages  excellence and entrepreneurship. Currently the Institute is functioning from the premises of the Vishwakarma Government Engineering College. The Institute has excellent  facilities in terms of classrooms, laboratory spaces, faculty offices, etc. IIT Gandhinagar currently offers a 4-year B. Tech. programme in the Chemical, Electrical and  Mechanical Engineering and a M.Tech programme in Chemical and Civil Engineering. In addition, the Institute offers the students the option to do a Minor in Computer  Science or Management along with their B.Tech degree. It also offers Ph.D. programme in several disciplines in Engineering (Chemical, Civil, Computer Science, Electrical,  Mechanical, and Metallurgy & Material Science), Sciences (Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics) and Humanities & Social Sciences (Cognitive Science, Economics  /Finance, English, Philosophy and Sociology). Starting July 2011, the Institute is introducing a new undergraduate curriculum keeping in mind the need to develop engineers  and problem solvers for the 21st century. The Institute currently has 325 undergraduate students, 20 postgraduate students, 55 faculty members, and 40 staff members.  Chemical Engineering at IIT Gandhinagar is a mix of traditional Chemical Engineering as well as the upcoming areas of Chemical Engineering such as nanotechnology,  biomedical engineering, pharmaceutical processing, molecular dynamic simulations of polymeric systems, and biochemical & biomolecular engineering. The students  undergo extensive course work and laboratory experience in all these conventional and recent areas of Chemical Engineering. The Department has several faculty members  with considerable teaching and research experience, and several others who are fresh PhDs. This combination provides an ideal atmosphere for education and research in the Department. There is also a significant Industry interaction with the Department. Some of the ongoing projects of the Department are in collaboration with Reliance Industries. Chemical Engineering students are also closely connected with industries through summer internships and regular plant visits at Reliance Dahej, UPL Bharuch, IFFCO Kallol, Reliance Vadodara, Anup Engineering Ahmadabad, NFL Vijaipur, HPCL Mumbai, Fluidyne Bangalore, Amul Ahmedabad etc. Similarly, many students undergo summer internships at various reputed academic institutes such as Washington University at St. Louis, Technische Univesitat Munchen and IIT Bombay. The current strength of the department is 12 faculty members including visiting and adjunct faculty, 2 staff, 115 undergraduate students, 12 M.Tech students, and 14 PhD students.The Department of Electrical Engineering is a blend of teaching and research activities pertaining to both Electronics and Electrical Engineering. At present the Department offers B. Tech. and PhD degrees. The diversity is reflected in the breadth of theoretical and laboratory courses that are on offer and the research activities of the faculty members. The Department firmly believes in imparting a strong hands-on flavor to the courses that a student takes, and therefore places emphasis on the laboratory component, internships and projects. The Department has an healthy mixture of young and experienced faculty members, all of whom display high levels of enthusiasm and dedication.
